My wife who suffers from dementia, your product works well keeping her upright, and does not ride up to her neck.

Bought this strap to use with our transport wheelchair that only has a thin waist belt. My aunt has dementia, and although she can still walk, she tires quickly and becomes very unstable. We bring the lightweight wheelchair with us when we go on longer outings to the park, museum, etc. just in case it is needed. In the past when we have used our transport chair, we are always a bit nervous going over bumpy ground just using the waist strap as she tends to lean to one side. She always seemed a bit unstable. These straps are a great solution. They are lightweight and don’t take up a lot of room, but seem robust and well made. The stitching looks like it will hold up well. The hefty buckles work well. And the front piece and shoulder straps are padded to keep it comfortable.The harness design is simple and effective. I like that it can be used for a variety of different builds and bodies. The straps can be adjusted to fit almost all sizes. Depending on the users torso height, the harness could ride up, but we just make sure to bring the straps under the wheelchairs arms before clipping it in back to help ensue it doesn’t slide up and become uncomfortable. This harness can also be used with a variety of wheelchair sizes or even just with a regular dining chair. We use it with our narrow transport chair as well as our standard wide full-sized wheelchair.One thing to note is that this is a restraining belt, not a seat belt. Meaning that someone else will have to clip and unclip the user in and out. Once clipped in, the individual in the wheelchair will have no way to let themselves out. This isn’t a problem for our needs, in fact it’s an advantage. But for some people this could be seen as a negative. It could make the user feel claustrophobic and trapped. Just something to consider.

FIT & COMFORTGiven the length of the shoulder straps and where they connect to, accounting for torso mass and the chair itself, its unlikely an adult user would be able to wear this around the waist. I'd say the measure of comfort will depend on how one intends to wear this. Worn tightly as a restraint and the upper abdominal compression will have to be considered. Worn loosely as a simple seatbelt and it seems the only comfort issue is the lap straps and arms jockeying over position.TILTING AND SLIDINGThe products description states it will "prevent tilting and sliding". Please note that sliding can mean two things; sliding forward in the chair as if to perch on the edge, and sliding out of the chair from reduced or torso control. I agree this belt would address the first. I do not see it helping the second due to how high it sits on the body. For patients that slide out of their chairs from issues relating to torso control a belt with crotch and/or leg straps is typically preferable. Tilting wise its a matter of how tight you can wear the belt but in my trial it was effective.QUALITYThe stitching neat and substantial, reinforced in all the right places. The side release buckles are wide and thick There is a small amount of padding in the portions that go around the waist and over the shoulders. I could detect no odor (always nice). And the package was vacuum sealed which I thought was great since so often I'm getting torn bags that have been exposed to who knows what.OTHER THOUGHTSThe belt came vacuum sealed which I appreciate for a number of reasons; its tamper evident, it keeps clean, and it saves space in the overall transit process thus reducing the carbon footprint. I wish more items did this.

I bought this thinking it would look like in the photos but this is what I received. Did not even try it on my husband as I would not take him out wearing something this wrinkled. It looks ugly. The product may be good but it was in a compressed clear bag and more then 24 hrs later it still looks the same. I am very disappointed.UPDATE - I returned the safety belt vest hoping the first one was just an error in how it was shrunk down in the packaging process. Then I stupidly reordered another one. The second one arrived quickly but was just as messed up. What the???? If you decide to order one just be aware you might get one that looks just as bad as I what I received. I would give it 0 stars but that is not possible.

Yes, it is sturdy. No, it is not easy to use nor is it comfortable. My daughter hates it.
