Good overall speaker
Nice compact speaker, good audio quality, good for a small room or desk companion, it might be good outdoors, but not my intended use…Pretty good battery life…but not used only on battery yet.

Unpleasant as background music for parties, deceptive battery life
First, the Amazon renewed version of this speaker is indistinguishable from new, other that packaging. Second, my application is to set up several speakers around a large outdoor pool and deck area. Usage is entirely outside. It's well made, but I'm returning it.Or the box, the bad is so overpowering, the rest of the should is muddled. It's unpleasant to sit next to, unless you use the free app to drop the bass to a very low setting. As you move away from the speaker, the sound grows faint. You'll need several for sound coverage unless you turn them up to high distortion levels. That brings up battery life. As the documentation itself describes, it's nowhere near 16 hours. The docs say that's only under ideal conditions at 34% volume (an odd level). Used more normally, it's clear to 8 though drops to 5 at kids volumes. That's still a long time but might not get you through a party. If I had paid retail, I'd be upset. As it is, just disappointed. Sony seems to like an EQ that sounds the vocalist is accompanied by a bass, even on the XB100 mini I tried before this.My years old JBL Charge has definitive bass but manages to produce a much more balanced sound. However, Sony and other brands allow ground multiple speakers.

Gift for the bro
Paid 70 bucks for it, simple wrinkles on the box the speaker looked untouched. Performance wise its Sony, does not fall short. Not saying it blows the competitors out of the water but for 70 bucks super sweet deal

Didn't live up to expectations
I purchased two of the Sony SRS-XE300 Bluetooth Speakers approximately 1.5 years ago. My complaint is the connectivity of grouping the two speakers together. This has been a constant challenge since day one. One of the two will always connect to my phone but connecting the group successfully not so much. I use the Sony App to do this but still group connectivity is very frustrating. These units should never be purchased with the intent of operating in a Group Stereo Mode. Additionally, connectivity between my phone and my wife's phone is a power struggle (unit not in party mode). We have to turn off the idle phone to guarantee connecting to the desired phone. Another feature that is lacking is you cannot remotely turn the speakers ON! You can only turn them OFF. Single speaker operation is pretty good. Audio is fine for this price point. The Speaker Cabinet is very attractive. These speakers are under our patio eve and left there 9 months of the year. The Weather doesn't seem to affect them negatively. For the above negative reasons I can't recommend these. They will be replaced with Two JBL Charge 5 Wifi speakers in the very near future.
