Q: With clips on the side for storage trays will a t square still slide up and down easily

The T-Square will slide, but the neck is not touching the surface of the table as the "head" of the T-square is held about 1/4" away from it. Even without the trays, the tray holding clips hold it away. HOWEVER, I use the trays only on the left side and removed the clips" on the right side with a Phillips screw driver. Problem solved in about 2 minutes or less. You could even do so on both sides if you wanted to remove all the tray clips.

No my desk doesn't shake at all when I draw/sketch on it. And I lean on it.

Actual work space is 35 1/4 inches wide by 23 1/2 inches deep. The plastic trays on each side are 2 1/2 inches wide. So and extra 5 inches wide for overall measurement of 40 1/4 inches.
