picked this up for some portrait work and it’s been great. the octa shape gives a really clean wrap on skin tones and the included grid helps control spill if you’re shooting in tight spaces. setup takes maybe a minute just pop it open click it on and you’re ready to go. i've used it for product shots and it works great. packs down small into the bag so it’s easy to haul around. feels solid and well made, definitely worth it if you want nice soft light.

This is really impressive. The material is top-notch and the locking mechanism is sturdy. The bag it comes in is really durable as well. It is easy to set-up. I hadn't seem this brand around, but cross checked it with photo stores and Amaran is sold there. I have yet to purchase the actual light. Long story short, I thought I had one but it was a mini one. Electronics is one area I like to buy the best, and while this might not be the ABSOLUTE best from a movie studio, it is coming in pretty close. But again, I search for better quality electronics and accessories.

These new style softboxes are so fast to open compared to having to fiddle around with a speed-ring. Much quicker setup for on location shoots. I like that it comes with a carrying bag also.The combination of the included grid, inner diffusion and outer diffusion gives you a lot of options to control and create the right kind of lighting you need for your shoot. Very glad it comes with all of them included.

The media could not be loaded. I’m in love with these one-motion, easy-open softbox designs. This Amaran softbox is my first in that category, and wow—it’s already my favorite. Amaran is a company I’ve come to know for their innovation and love for lighting, and this product absolutely lives up to that rep.First off: the bag. I’m a total sucker for gear that comes with its own bag. And this one? Flat. That’s a huge deal, because my other softboxes all require awkward tube-like storage. But this? It folds completely flat after use—with just two clips to release. 😍 So good.The video here are from an event I shot a few weeks ago, and I’m planning to bring this with me everywhere my big COB lights go.So, how easy is it to open? Two hands. One motion. Two clips. Boom—done. Assembly is incredibly fast. My other softboxes take at least eight locks to set up, and my giant one has to be built piece by piece, threading six rods into the base. So yeah… two clips? Feels like I’m living in luxury.Honestly, I didn’t even look at the instructions—I just knew how it opened. That’s the kind of design I love. (Brilliant idea—see what I did there? 😏)It also comes with a nice, thick grid and two diffusers. I went with the larger diffuser for this shoot and tucked the smaller one into the bag. I’ll break out the grid when the lighting needs get more specific.All in all, I’m just thrilled. Amaran keeps innovating, keeps delivering, and this softbox is hands-down my new favorite.

The best 3 foot soft box diffuser I have ever owned. Amaran as a company kind of snuck up on me, to be honest. I went from never having heard of them a year or two ago, to owning 5 or 6 of their diffusers and lights. The quality in every single one of them is top-notch. Super easy to set up and take down and they all come with amazing cases that help them be portable.

The Amaran Octa Dome 90 is a large yet easy to setup light modifier. The Dome 90 comes in a flat pouch that can store the octa dome nicely when folded down. Being that this is a larger modifier at 90cm it can be a little challenging to setup however Amaran's quick release setup makes setting up as easy as folding over the blue handle and snapping it in place. Instead of individually snapping open each of the 8 ribs of the octa box unfolding the blue plastic handle snaps the all into place at once which is so genius and so easy. Collapsing the modifier is as easy as squeezing in the two metal tabs at the plastic handle and it pops down folding flat. From there you just wrap the velcro strap around compressing the entire thing and slide it into the bag.I love the simplicity of the quick release system that Amaran has implemented with this octa dome and because I have been spoiled with the ease of use I am constantly wishing that my other light modifiers had something similar. I think this is a great investment at under $100. The quality is nice, the setup is quick, and the modifier is big.
