Welcome to the Capital Wasteland, smoothskins!
So, Fallout 3 gets five stars. And why? Because it is inarguably one of the greatest, most addictive games of the past decade -- that's why. Great plot, outstanding gameplay, and an environment to explore unlike any other you might have already encountered in a game, no other title offers as much in pure entertainment as Bethesda's Fallout 3. From mowing down Super Mutants In the Capital Wasteland, to robbing a traveling caravan of traders (yes, I did that. More than once. You will too), you will never get bored roaming, exploring, and murdering unsuspecting fellow-wanderers for their loot.Aside from the looting/murdering, the game has many side quests for you to seek out and explore -- so many in fact that it's a wonder anybody has ever completed the main quest! -- and a unique karma meter, letting you decide if you wanna be the good guy or the bad guy.Recommended for anybody who enjoys brilliant games with great gameplay and a great plot.(Be a bad guy. It's way more fun. And you can sneak a grenade into a person's pocket and watch them go Kaboom!)

Great classic game - but spoiled by cap on levelling up
This title is regularly in top 20 game reviews of all time and I certainly enjoyed it while the gameplay lasted. I docked a star however because quite unexpectedly the levelling up process locked at 20. Apparently you need to buy an additional add-on to continue. You can continue with missions etc, but impossible to earn extra skills. Since 'levelling-up' is the whole mental incentive driving your enthusiasm in the game I suddenly lost interest ...

Its a good game, but falls a little flat.
Fallout 3 is set in a post-nuclear USA where you have lived all your life in a protective vault, until now... From the makers of Oblivion and Skyrim, so, as you expect, the completely open world environment is good (if a little bleak and repetitive) and there is the main quest, various faction quests and lots of little side quests for various characters you meet on the way. Whereas with games like Dragons Dogma, where side quests consist of "kill 20 rabbits", these side quests can actually be quite long and involved. Its post-apocolypse, so its not a "pretty" game. Although its a free-roaming, open world its all ruins, rubble and dead trees with lots of mutated creatures and roaming raider gangs out to get you. You can customise your character, but it is a little limited and I've yet to create a character that doesn't look completely gormless! The trouble is there there is a whole "1950's Sci-fi theme" to the menu screens, and the screen where you customise your character is like a grainy 1950's TV - you don't get a very good idea of what you actually look like. The plus side is that later in the game you meet a plastic surgeon, so you then get the option to change your appearance.Anyone who has played Oblivion - Elder Scrolls will see the similarities straight away - choosing all you attributes etc etc before going out of the vault door - the set up and game play is virtually identical. The only downside is, like Oblivion, it falls so flat with character interaction and any depth of storyline. Although you can choose to have a companion, games like Dragon Age give us great characters, moral choices, friendships and relationships to offer some kind of reward for our actions within the game - this really has none, although there is a "Karma" system, where good or bad actions produce good or bad karma - this limits some of the followers you can have (eg. some characters will only follow you if you are bad, others will follow only if you are good, and if you do something they disapprove of then they will leave you). The only "reward" is basically completing the game. Also, like Oblivion, there are no cut scenes and, on the plus side, dialogue can be cut short. Another plus side, from a purely girly perspective, is that you can get a lovely, if slightly stained, 50's style dress and high heels for your female character. It is very playable, and the controls are easy (once you get used to the "pip boy" device for the games menus) but can get a little bit repetative and the landscape is bleak. The story is good, but with little or no real character interaction or emotion (apart from your father) it falls a little flat. It is very much Oblivion Elder Scrolls but a different setting, however, it is much more adult, set in a bleak, dog eat dog world, with a swearing, sexual references and violence.

Boring, dated, save money and buy Skyrim or Mass Effect instead
I had heard mixed reactions to Fallout - some love it, some hate it...I love a lot of free roaming sandbox games like the Elder Scrolls series, the Yakuza games, Final Fantasy etc., and I love sci fi, so took a chance with this...I was very disappointed...at the start it seems hopeful, with Liam Neeson voice-acting and the game giving you the impression it has a plot, but once you leave the vault you quickly realize how crap the gameplay is, that every single location looks the same, how dated the graphics are, how tedious and loathsome all the characters are...the combat is painful, awkward, and as another review said enemies are just too hard and the weapons and medicine available are rubbish and limited...the scenery is depressing and could not be more boring, I love grim sci fi and the idea of an open world sci fi game, but with its barren post-apocalyptic wasteland, cringe-inducing 50s sci fi fetishism (I like 50s sci fi but in this it's just daft), two-dimensional scumbag characters, Fallout 3 failed to keep me interested...Seems nothing more than a stepping stone between Morrowind and the brilliance that is Skyrim - still expensive at the moment but worth every penny...As for gritty sci fi adventure, buy the Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Mass Effect 2 instead of this

I had no problem with delivery as it came quite early. However the game itself is quite appalling, maybe my expectations were really high.
