Life changing, Ideal for dog owners.
If you have a dog then you know what I mean. The deep dread of returning home to a scattered bin. The fear that someone may, unthinkingly, put raisins, or corn on the cob, or chicken bones in the bin and the dog will get too it (I don't worry so much about chocolate - no one in our house would put that in the bin). It is not so much the mess, although that ain't pleasant, but the worry about the negative impact on my dogs heath. And dietary indiscretion can lead to a wide range of expensive-to-solve veterinary problems.I work in a veterinary practice and we have one of these bins in the staff room, It was purchased about 10 years ago after recurrent bouts of pancreatitis in one of the staff dogs - it still looks great and works well.I never paid it much attention until I purchased one recently for my own kitchen - and oh it is such a weight of my mind. The click shut soon becomes second nature and it is such a joy not to come home to strewn yogurt pots every day (my real fear was that she would eat a bit of metal or batterie of something). But, on top of that, every thing else about this bin is just right. It is tall and narrow so fits a small space, but it is very stable. it fits the bin bags really well and is super easy to clean. It is robust and just works really well - it is worth every penny - I strongly recommend this to dog lovers.

Very nice quality bin
Very nice kitchen bin, well made with a smooth action. Just the right size to fit behind our kitchen door.

Great versatile bin
Great bin. Since arriving it's holding all my recycling (2 weeks) comfortably & this suits our fortnightly collection. Our replying doesn't include glass or food packaging which is done separately - but I bought this bin with my family recycling needs in mind. The lid lock is definitely good to 'toddler proof' the bin. The pedal attracts my son to play with the bin, but as its all non perishable 'clean' paper/card recycling it's fine for him to play as the lid doesn't slam. Another great feature, the slow shut lid.Wheels make it easy to move around and its lightweight. My 4* rating is because the bin tapers down in size so if it's placed next to something you have to leave a gap otherwise the lid gets obstructed. I hope that makes sense? Also, as other says, if this was used for household food rubbish and the bag split, it's would be awkward to clean due to the wheel casing at the base. Finally - the 45L White Sainsbury recyle bin liners were still a squeeze over the top so that wouldn't be ideal for rubbish but black bags have a larger opening so that could still work.Overall a great bin.

Great looking bin
When I received this bin I did think it looked rather small, was a bit fiddly to open as it arrived locked.Once I got it open, it was fine, my black handled bin bags fit just right in the bin plus even though it looks small it does actually hold a lot when you push the rubbish down inside the bin it practically fills the whole bag.Was not actually going to buy it because of the cost as I thought it’s quite expensive for a bin but a friend recommended it to me as they said they have one & have had it for a long time. Now I have it I do think it is worth the money as it’s a lovely bin like the metal peddle on it, the shape of it is just right for the size of my kitchen & plus it’s on wheels, I do find it does tend to move when you have used it depending on which way you place it.Also did find having a lock on it was very unusual plus the shape of it makes it unique, so I’m very pleased with it.

5 stars
We previously had a larger 60L SimpleHuman bin, and that has served us well for over 10 years. The only thing that broke in the 10 years was the closing clasp (due to normal wear), but even that was no problem because you are supplied with spares.60L is a bit big for a couple with no children in the house, so we wanted something considerably smaller with the same quality, and this bin looks to be perfect. This 40L bin is up to the usual SimpleHuman quality, and has a nice damped lid action. It is double lined, having an inner plastic bucket, so is waterproof (and pretty airtight) for the person who is going to throw in soggy items, food or perishables into it.Downsides? No handle on the inner bin. Not a problem for me as this is a small bin so doesn’t warrant it. The outer bin’s lid hinge doubles as a handle (it has a recessed area for your fingers to go so you can lift the whole bin up without coming into contact with the potentially dirty bits, and for the more fastidious, allows you to clean the outer shell without putting fingerprints on it).Cost. Supermarket own brands now do SimpleHuman copies for much cheaper. I’ll leave it to you to decide whether they are built to the same quality and will last 10 years! (We had two 60L Asda bins for our office kitchen at work, and the lid of one of them went after only 3 months, so my impression is that the copies are not designed for the same lifetime). The damped close action may be a bit much for some, especially the kitchen cook who is constantly throwing bits and pieces into the bin (although most cooks tend to have a waste bowl on the cooking surface for this, so possibly only an issue if you are doing it wrong!).Who would buy this?Anyone looking for a second, smaller bin (home office, bathroom, upstairs landing). The green household looking for two kitchen bins for waste/recyclables or waste/compostable. The fact that you can choose the bin colour is helpful here! The small family or couple looking for a smaller bin (one of the perks of the kids finally flying the roost!).Overall, a nice bin from the quality end of the market. Built to last, and looks nice (especially if you match the colour with the rest of the room).I have used this bin for 6 months before reviewing it.
