this certainly is great little camera for the price
Well, this certainly is great little camera for the price. I use it for pictures and video, with the video needing an external microphone so you can escape the sound of the autofocus (research this thoroughly before purchasing if you're wanting to become the next Casey Neistat!). The picture quality is excellent, the functionality is brilliant, and the interface is easy to pick up within a few days.I would recommend getting a zoom lens for the camera relatively quickly, as we all know how limiting kit lenses can be.All in all, fantastic for the price and comparable in quality to a canon 70d (at almost half the price!).Attached are some images I have taken in my first few outings with this camera and a 70-300mm nikkor lens.

Great
Perfect for me as I also have a D810 so as my second camera it is just great. I also strongly recommend this D5500 to anyone it's a very good camera and I also say you should buy from this company at any time.

Lovely camera, easy and fun to use. Love the wifi feature.
This is my first SLR camera and I'm thrilled with it. I've been using it on auto mode until recently and managed to get some lovely shots. I'm now doing a photography course and getting to grips with more of the settings. It's much lighter than I was expecting and very comfy to hold. One of the best features from my point of view is that's it's wifi enabled. You switch on the wifi on the camera, connect to it from your iPad and can view all your pictures immediately on the Nikon app. Download the ones you want, it's very quick and great for sharing photos quickly.I've attached a couple of photos in case it helps anyone. I'm a beginner so I'm not sure of all the technical things people want to know but as a first SLR it's an amazing step up from any compact camera I've ever used.

A bit disappointed with this
A bit disappointed with this.I wanted a new DSLR and liked what I had read,I felt the D5500 needed GPS,and when I read Amazon's details,it looked like an upgrade, with GPS.Well,it hasn't,it's a bog standard with a slightly different lens. Results so far are good, but the thing that finally convinced me to buy this isn't there. You read this,it clearly says built in GPS.I could have had the same thing for about £40 cheaper.I should have done more research,I know, and I can find nothing on Nikon website about this.Maybe only a small thing, but I wouldn't have bought this if I had known.

Nikon D5500 is a great camera
Very pleased with this camera. Great quality and very versatile. Can be used to take good quick pictures or with the time to learn you can easily take control of the camera to produce works of art.

5* Camera
Excellent camera for the price. The new AF-P sensor is quick and even more silent than the older AF-S version.Would highly recommend this with a Prime Lens for those clear shots.

A lot of camera in a small package.
You get a lot of camera for your money with the Nikon D5500. My last SLR was made in 2008 and I can't believe how far technology has come since then. This is proper SLR, but it's small and light in the hand. Suitable for even the smallest hands. It almost feels like a point & shoot camera at times especially because of its fold-out touchscreen You can look through the viewfinder when framing a shot in the "classic" way or you can turn on live view and use the screen. Both ways feed intuitive. When using the viewfinder the screen is full of information about the current settings so you always know how it's currently set up. There's a full-auto mode to get you started with other modes for you to experiment with as you sharpen your photographic skills, all the way up to full manual mode.Images are bright and sharp even in low light. Video is smooth and colourful, but the built in stereo mic isn't very good. You get full HD video - 1080p at 50fps. There's a dedicated button on the top - just one button push is needed to start recording video. There is a mobile app that allows you to trigger the shutter remotely (ideal for group shots that you want to be in). You can also view the images on the camera and download them to your phone. This allows you to, for example, upload them straight away to Facebook. The app isn't great, it's a bit slow and hard to set up initially. I had to resort to the manual to find out how to connect the camera to my phone.Things you need to know before you buy:- Does not come with an external microphone. If you want good quality sound with your video you will need to buy a microphone for this camera. There's a 3.5mm jack on the side for this. RØDE VideoMic GO On Camera Microphone - Black/Red- Does not come with an SD card. If you already have a draw full, then this is OK, it would have been great to have a small card in the box so I could have started shooting right away. Choose a fast one from a reliable manufacturer, like SanDisk. SanDisk Extreme 32 GB SDHC Class 10 Memory Card up to 90 Mbps with U3 Ratings, Frustration Free Packaging- You will need image editing software. I can't recommend Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 (PC/Mac) highly enough for this purpose.- The strap is too small for my tastes, you might find that you want a longer strap. It's easy to get on and off, so this won't be a problem.
