HIC’s Tip Tea Strainer easily strains loose tea leaves from the brew when pouring steeped tea from a teapot or other tea steeping vessel. Pour a perfect cup of tea every time. The Tip Tea Strainer removes leaves for a cleaner cup of tea. The attached tray catches unwanted drips and prevents unsightly mess at the table. Simply tip the basket over a cup, pour the steeped tea from the teapot, or other steeping vessel, through the mesh and into the cup. Tip the basket back over the tray to catch drips while not in use. A useful addition to kitchen utensils and tea accessories, it’s easy to use and empty. Made from 18/8 stainless steel with a comfortable curved handle. Dishwasher safe for easy cleanup. Set of 2.

Freakin' awesome, my wife loves it!
Saw one of these used on "Brokenwood," a show about NZ detectives we watched on Acorn through Amazon Prime Video. It strains out tea leaves when pouring from our Brown Betty but has its own drip catcher. Went to AmazonUK looking for tea strainers since we Americans just don't do tea right (artsy Vedic infusions and small tea balls that don't hold enough leaves or let them unfold) and searching for tea strainers here brings up dismal results. Found it there, copied and pasted the tipping strainer type in our US Amazon search box, and voila! Two came up, and this was the least expensive. Being careful you can take it apart to clean it better, and if the sieve falls out you can slightly bend the sides back together to keep it in place just enough so it swings freely when using. Definitely worth five stars, and I'll use that AmazonUK search trick in the future, I'm sure--it'll probably work for searching Canada, Australia, and elsewhere.

I will be giving this as a gift after getting one for myself. I saw one on an english show and was so excited since we drink a million gallons of tea every year in my family.Thank you,

Perfect
The is a really great product. The basket easily spins as you tilt the handle. There is a small "neck" on the base, so excess liquid doesnt easily spill out. The metal is plain and good quality.I love that the strainer provides it's own plate. Easily the best tea gadget I have bought in a long time.

Broken
The piece came broken. I can use the stationer as a mini strainer, but the piece holding the strainer to the bowl were broken so they are two separate pieces rather than one piece that swivels.

Adequate tea strainer, a bit annoying to use.
My favorite tea shop used to have this design, so I thought I would like it. This is a cheap version. The strainer does not swing nicely in its holder, and falls out about half the time. It's easy enough to replace in its little holes in the holder, but its just barely useable. I am planning to buy a different design and pass this one along to the kids to use as a fairy swing or something.

Not a free swinger
I had owned a similar strainer for over 15 years, but alas the screen finally wore out. I was looking forward to the new strainer and was happy that the catch basin is much more sturdier than its predecessor, but was a bit disappointed with its functionality. When turning the object 90 degrees so that the basket swings away from the basin, to facilitate pouring the tea through the basket and straining the leaves, unfortunately, the basket itself will not turn and must be manually adjusted as with returning back to normal. The difference betwixt the two is the strainer basket on the previous had studs that set into the handles of the basin and with this one the studs are on the handles and push into the basket, subsequently up against the inside rim causing friction to limit its free swing. Two months later: The handle side of the unit broke off. Two months, my last one went for 15 years!

Good idea, but cheap. Waste of money.
I really like the idea of this strainer, but the strainer mechanism on the one I got doesn't swing in its own. You have to push it with your finger to get it to swing out and back over the metal base. Its would be totally perfect if it did that on its own. I normally don't mind but after pouring boiling water over the strainer it gets hot and it you don't push it back down, the item will tip over and spill all the tea leaves it caught all over the table....frustrating.UPDATE01/01/13I have had this item just a few months and the metal arm that holds the not self swinging strainer completely broke off. Short of soldering, it is completely broken and unusable. Bad purchase. Waste of money.

Very unique!
I liked the uniqueness of this tea accessory. However, it will not sit properly on all teacups. It is almost unusable on shallow teacups.

Just what I wanted
Got my tea strainer today, and used it right away. It is just what I wanted, very happy with my purchase.

very instable
This strainer does not hold straight when one pours the tea so the leaves would fall in the teapot. Plus, it dismantled after two days of use.

One Star
too small for some of the whole leaf teas so they swell and drop overboard.
