It only locks in place only 1 way Just exactly like the pictures It looks weird but feels firm when you place bell correctly

Q: does this work with the bell of a tenor sax?

yes it does. Please note that although it looks like a Hercules stand, and for the most part works like it. some of the spring buttons might not align 100% and may take a bit of tweaking to hold.

Q: What is the rubber sling for?

That is to prevent the saxophone from falling.
