BRUKNER & KHANS CLINICAL SPORTS MEDICINE: Australian Edition

A must have in your bookshelf!
I am an orthopaedic trainee sitting the Diploma of Sports Medicine exam.I found this book very useful for preparation. It is very well written, the chapters are logically organised user friendly and the content is excellent and easy to read. The illustrations and table are fantastic and easy to refer to for revision just before the exam and the index in comprehensive.I was so impressed with the third edition which I borrowed from the library that I ordered the 4th edition immediately and I was so glad to see the relevant important chapters on pain, sudden death in sport, challenging hip pain and hamstring tears.Highly recommended for enthusiastic orthopaedic trainees as many of the common useful concepts like rehabilitation, types of exercises etc are not so well explained in orthopaedic references. The only downside is that an electronic copy is not available online (like student consult, expertconsult or skyscape) which I use for other books. The online resources are fantastic for preparation before the exam but examination of the spine is missing! Nutrition chapter is removed as well.

Essential book for MSK clinicians working in sport
An absolute essential to any clinician or coach working within the field of sports medicine! With up to date info on judging whether players are fit to return to play e.g. concussion rules, rehabilitation post-injury, to handy assessment and treatments techniques for an injured sports person. I would say this book has everything you need when it comes to sports medicine and does exactly what it says on the cover. For more general Musculoskeletal medicine however, I would recommend: "A practical approach to musculoskeletal medicine" by J Kerr and others if you work with less sporty patients/clients.

In depth
No other book compares to the simple layout of brukner and khan, it doesn't just give you s&s but it related biomechanical faults and mechanisms of each injury. Well worth the price as this will be your number one book to refer to.

Exactly what is needed
I bought this book as my son is studying sports therapy at uni and they suggested this book. Fabulous book, large and heavy though but packed full of info which will last a lifetime throughout his career. Fabulous service. Book sold as used but looked brand new
